Information We Collect
Information collected automatically
When you visit the site, our web server and the tools described below may automatically record standard technical information, such as your IP address, browser type, device type, operating system, referring page, pages viewed, and the date and time of your visit.
Information you choose to give us
- Comments: If you leave a comment, we collect the name, email address, and website (optional) you enter, the comment itself, your IP address, and browser user agent to help detect spam. Your email address is not shown publicly.
- Emails: If you email us, we receive your email address and whatever information you include in your message.
We do not ask for payment details, Social Security numbers, or other sensitive information.
How We Use Information
- To operate, maintain, and secure the website
- To understand which articles are useful so we can improve our content
- To display and moderate comments and prevent spam
- To reply to messages you send us
- To measure the performance of any advertising we run to promote the site
- To comply with legal obligations
Cookies and Analytics
Cookies are small text files stored by your browser. We and the services listed below use cookies and similar technologies to remember preferences (for example, comment details if you choose to save them) and to measure site usage.
- Google Analytics: We use Google Analytics 4 to understand how visitors find and use the site, such as pages viewed and approximate location (country or city level). Google may use cookies to collect this data. You can learn more in How Google uses information from sites that use its services and opt out with the Google Analytics Opt-out Browser Add-on.
- Microsoft Advertising (UET tag): We use Microsoft’s Universal Event Tracking tag, which may set cookies to help us measure visits that come from Microsoft/Bing advertising and to build audiences. See the Microsoft Privacy Statement; you can manage personalized ads at Microsoft ad settings.
You can block or delete cookies through your browser settings. The site will still work, though some features (such as remembered comment details) may not.
Third-Party Services We Use
- WordPress powers the site.
- LiteSpeed Cache (and, where enabled, the QUIC.cloud service) helps the site load faster by caching pages and optimizing images. These services process technical request data such as IP addresses to deliver pages.
- Yoast SEO helps structure our pages for search engines. It does not collect personal information from visitors.
- Google Fonts may be loaded from Google’s servers, which receive your IP address to deliver font files.
Visitors from Google and Pinterest
Many readers reach PaulWorld through Google Search or Pinterest. When you click a link from those platforms, your browser may tell us which site referred you; this is recorded in our analytics as referral information. We do not receive your Google or Pinterest account details.
If you save, pin, or share our content on Pinterest, or interact with our pins, that activity happens on Pinterest and is governed by the Pinterest Privacy Policy. Your use of Google Search is governed by the Google Privacy Policy.
External Links
Our articles may link to other websites, such as manufacturers, government safety resources, or reference sources. We are not responsible for the privacy practices of those websites, and we encourage you to read their policies. If we ever include affiliate links, we will disclose them as described on our Affiliate Disclosure page.
How Long We Keep Information
Comments and their related details are kept for as long as the comment remains on the site. Emails are kept only as long as needed to respond and for reasonable record-keeping. Analytics data is retained according to the retention settings of the analytics provider. Server and cache logs are kept for a limited period for security and performance purposes.
How We Protect Information
The site is served over HTTPS, and we use reasonable administrative and technical measures to protect information. No method of transmission or storage on the internet is completely secure, so we cannot guarantee absolute security.
We Do Not Sell Your Personal Information
We do not sell your personal information for money. Some analytics and advertising measurement tools described above may be considered “sharing” for cross-context behavioral advertising under certain state laws. You can limit this by using the opt-out tools linked above, blocking cookies, or enabling Global Privacy Control in your browser.
Your Privacy Rights
California residents (CCPA/CPRA)
If you live in California, you may have the right to know what personal information we collect, to request access to or deletion of it, to correct inaccurate information, to opt out of the sale or sharing of personal information, and to not be discriminated against for exercising these rights. Residents of other US states with similar privacy laws may have comparable rights.
Visitors from the EU, UK, and EEA (GDPR)
Although our site is aimed at US readers, if you visit from the European Union, United Kingdom, or European Economic Area you may have rights to access, correct, delete, restrict, or object to processing of your personal data, and to lodge a complaint with your local data protection authority. We process data based on our legitimate interest in running and improving the site, or your consent where required.
How to make a request
Email contact@paulworld.site with your request. We may need to verify your identity before responding, and we will respond within the time required by applicable law.
Do Not Track and Global Privacy Control
There is no common industry standard for responding to browser “Do Not Track” signals, so our site does not currently respond to them. Where required by law, we treat a Global Privacy Control (GPC) signal as a request to opt out of the sale or sharing of personal information for that browser.
Children’s Privacy
PaulWorld is a general-audience site and is not directed at children under 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13, consistent with the Children’s Online Privacy Protection Act (COPPA). If you believe a child has provided us personal information, contact us and we will delete it.
Changes to This Policy
We may update this Privacy Policy when our site or the services we use change. We will post the updated version on this page and change the “Last updated” date above.
